On Words and Business

One of my favorite words of all time: lieutenant.

I rarely have occasion to use it, but I like the meaning…holding in place; instead of or acting for a superior.

The British pronunciation as lef-tenant (versus the American loo-tenant) has always struck me as both supremely cool and a bit odd. Really…where’d they get the f?
